Playground amphitheatre with seating for a Gaelic school on the Isle of Skye
Transforming a playground
Completed in 2018, WoodBlocX was tasked with designing and installing a large curved amphitheatre with integrated sand pit for Portree Primary School, which is located on the Isle of Skye. The landscaping project also included various timber planters and seating boxes around the school playground.
Working closely with Keith Wood of Highland Landscape Design who was commissioned by Highland Council / Robertson Northern, our combination of off-site manufacturing, ability to supply to such a remote site and bespoke modular seating system was the perfect solution for the client and school.
A dynamic & practical space
The amphitheatre was designed to accommodate some of the steep slopes around the school grounds to give the pupils a meeting and viewing space with tiered seating on 3 levels. In addition, the range of block seats, planter seats and planters located around the rest of playground have helped to create new outdoor learning spaces.
