Bespoke planters and seats for a residential rooftop

Platform, Central Quay Residential Apartments

Central Quay takes a prominent position on the banks of the River Clyde and plays a key role in the regeneration of the riverside area. The impressive scheme includes more than 450 apartments, a hotel, retail and office space.

Platform appointed Keppie Design to develop the residential areas of the building, including the vast roof spaces, which have been transformed into two raised, low maintenance garden/courtyards for residents to enjoy.

The scheme has recently been named Build to Rent Property of the Year in the 2024 Scottish Property Awards.

Bespoke design

Taking the Keppie team’s designs, we recreated the planter designs using our software, visualising the structures across the two podium gardens.

The final designs included 25 planters, a series of large L-shaped rectangular and angular designs, and several planter benches, which were positioned to create private areas for residents.

Our raised planters can be designed in any shape or size, and can include seating, bespoke angles, tiers and curves. The design possibilities are almost endless thanks to the modular nature of WoodBlocX.

Create rooftop gardens with ease

Central Quay is a great example of maximising roof space. Creating garden areas on a roof terrace or podium is a great way to bring greenery into largely hard-landscaped areas to create community spaces for residents and visitors.

Our modular system provides Landscape Architects with an extremely effective and lighter-weight option for roof gardens like this one. Made up of small, easy-to-transport components rather than large structures, it’s easy to get on site and quick and easy to build, providing a practical and attractive solution.
